Alessia Cara Puts A Jazzy Spin On Frank Ocean’s ‘Super Rich Kids’

Yes, she even tackles Earl Sweatshirt's verse

Alessia Cara is a noted Frank Ocean superfan who’s boldly covered his songs before. Last month, for example, she put an acoustic spin on the Blonde cut “Ivy,” and then threw it back to Channel Orange for a live rendition of “Swim Good.”

Now, the 20-year-old has again channeled Channel Orange for a jazzy version of “Super Rich Kids,” which she performed on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show. Accompanied by a pianist, a drummer, and a bassist, Cara even tackled Earl Sweatshirt’s zany guest verse, so she gets extra props for that.

“I think this is one of the most brilliant songs, not only of his, but just ever,” Cara said before launching into the cover. “I think it’s so genius, it’s beautiful lyrically, and I love the melody. It’s something different, and I hope we can do it justice.”

Hear the full session below, during which Cara also performs “Scars to Your Beautiful” and “River of Tears,” both from her debut album, Know-It-All. The “Super Rich Kids” cover starts at the 22:09 mark.
