After announcing the news yesterday, Tinashe has come through with her 15-track project Nightride. But that’s not all — the R&B princess also graced the internet with an accompanying six-minute short film.
The sultry but grim visual begins with T declaring, “I’m so sick of appeasing people,” and later adding, “This is a fucked-up, twisted journey. It’s a crazy world out there.” From there, the phrase “ERA II” flashes on the screen, and we’re taken through a, well, decidedly fucked-up and twisted journey.
“Soft as a feather, black as the night / Break me to pieces, sharp as a knife,” Tinashe sings, while we see her silently screaming inside a plastic bag, holding a lighter up to her tongue, and licking the smeared lipstick on her teeth. After the song finishes, she says she feels out of place in the world, but ultimately ends things on an empowering note: “I am powerful. I can change the world.” Damn right, T.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Tinashe revealed that Nightride and her long-awaited album Joyride are two parts of the same project, and that Joyride will arrive early next year.
Until then, these 15 tracks will have to hold us over. Stream Nightride here:
