It's a tall order, comparing the various superheroes and supervillains that make up the massive sprawl of the Marvel universe, but Marvel studio head Kevin Feige is clear about Captain Marvel: She's gonna be one of the top, if not the top, superheroes on the toughness scale to ever hit the big screen.
In an interview with Vulture, Feige opened up about the character Brie Larson will bring to life in 2019. Specifically, he gushed about how damn strong Captain Marvel is, and how that's exactly why Larson is the perfect actress to play her.
"She's amazing, obviously, and she's a great actress," he told Vulture. "It's very important to us that all of our heroes do not become silhouette-perfect cutout icons. All of the Marvel characters have flaws to them, all of them have a deep humanity to them. With Captain Marvel, she is as powerful a character as we've ever put in a movie. Her powers are off the charts, and when she's introduced, she will be by far the strongest character we've ever had. It's important, then, to counterbalance that with someone who feels real. She needs to have a humanity to tap into, and Brie can do that."
Wait — what? "Strongest character we've ever had," as in stronger than the Cap and Hulk and Thor and every other Avenger and bad guy to come to blows in spectacular fashion?! Hurry up and fast-forward to 2019, please. We need to see exactly how Captain Marvel redefines strength for the strongest characters in comics, and we need to see it now.
