The First 'Logan' Trailer Is Brutal And Unlike Anything In The 'X-Men' Universe
Wolverine is officially too old for this shit in the first trailer for Logan, the third and final installment of the Wolverine film franchise. In it, a gruff and grizzled Logan (Hugh Jackman) has seemingly given up the superhero lifestyle for good in favor of something more simple. Years of playing the hero have taken a toll on the razor-clawed former X-Man, and he’s got the scars and lines to prove it.
“Charles, the world is not the same as it was,” he tells Professor X (Patrick Stewart), now old as well. “Mutants — they’re gone now.” That is, until they come across a young girl with remarkable gifts who’s being hunted by some very bad men. And just like that, Logan comes out of retirement for one last wild, R-rated ride. We don’t know what’s making us more emotional: watching Logan hold her tiny hand or listening to Johnny Cash’s cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt.”
Given the ending of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Logan is definitely taking a different approach than the beloved comic that inspired it. Mark Millar’s Old Man Logan is set in an alternate future where supervillains rule the world. Wolverine, retired with a wife and kids, agrees to help Hawkeye — yes, that Hawkeye — in one last mission. Everything goes horribly wrong and a wild adventure ensues. In Logan, which looks more like a Western than a comic-book movie, Wolverine teams up with Professor X, which already looks more compelling.
Logan hits theaters March 3, 2017.
