13 One Direction Songs That Were Definitely About Sex

Maybe Zayn just forgot about them?

Zayn Malik’s autobiography doesn’t hit shelves until November 1, but in order to help us bide our time until then, the singer released an excerpt that gives us an idea of what to expect — namely, dirt on his One Direction days.

He writes:

[“Pillowtalk”] was a sick cut, nailing the exact sound I wanted to capture in my music. I was also able to sing about a subject that I hadn’t really been able to go near while I was in One Direction: sex.

Hmmm. OK. Zayn, we love you, but let’s be real here — 1D songs may not have been ~overtly~ about sex but, uh, the references were definitely there.

Need proof? Don’t worry, we got you:

  1. I know we only met but let’s pretend it’s love / And never, never, never stop for anyone / Tonight let’s get some and live while we’re young — “Live While We're Young”

I feel like the phrase “get some” is pretty telling, no?

  2. Don’t play innocent / I know what you meant / When you said you’d come over — “Change Your Ticket”

I wonder what he thinks she meant!

  3. I don’t know why I wanna be with every girl I meet / I can’t control it / Yeah, I know it’s taking over me / I’m going crazy — “Alive”

This song is literally about going to a therapist for sex addiction.

  4. You can call me / When you’re lonely / When you can’t sleep / I’ll be your temporary fix / You control me / Even if it’s just tonight — “Temporary Fix”

Hm. What could that temporary fix be, I wonder?

  5. Are you sleeping, baby, by yourself? / Or are you giving it to someone else? — "Where Do Broken Hearts Go"

The "it" in this scenario could be her heart but, like, I don't think it is.

  6. Waking up / Beside you I’m a loaded gun / I can’t contain this anymore / I’m all yours, I’ve got no control, no control — “No Control”

It seems like another round with the “Alive” therapist may be necessary.

  7. Best I ever had / Hips don’t lie / You make me wanna ... / One more night — “Better Than Words”

    Wanna what?!?!??????

  8. Let me be your last first kiss / I wanna be first, yeah / Wanna be the first to take it all the way like this — “Last First Kiss”

I think we all know what “take it all the way” means.

  9. I wanna stay up all night / And find a girl and tell her she’s the one / Hold on to the feeling / And don’t let it go — “Up All Night”

Even on the first album, the guys were surprisingly flippant about telling a girl she’s the one.

  10. Your hands touching me, they’re touching me / And your eyes keep saying things / They say of what we do / When it’s only me and you / I can’t concentrate — “Little White Lies”

“Touching” + “only me and you” + “can’t concentrate” = you get the drift.

  11. If you give in tonight / Just let me set you free / We’ll touch the other side / Just give me the key — “Why Don’t We Go There”

Beautiful imagery, no? We see through it though, obviously.

  12. If you don’t wanna take it slow / And you just wanna take me home / Baby, say yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah — “Kiss You”

What’s the opposite of slow again?

  13. I want you to / Rock me, rock me, rock me ... yeah! — “Rock Me”

Hm. It’s almost like they needed another four-letter word ending in -ck in the place of ... well.

I could go on, but I feel like my point was proven. If you’d like to discuss in person, Zayn, HMU.
