How Will Teen Mom OG Catelynn Discuss Mental Illness With Daughter Novalee?

The young parent has been candid about her struggles through the years

Catelynn has spoken about the impact her mental illness could potentially have on daughter Novalee throughout this season of Teen Mom OG — and during this week’s episode, the young parent tearfully confessed to her therapist, Kathleen, that the toddler “might be better off” without her. The statement was heartbreaking — and Kathleen made sure to quickly assert that this was not true and reinforce to Cate that the world would be “broken” if she left.

But looking toward the future when Nova is old enough to comprehend her mother’s battle with anxiety and depression, what does Cate want her little girl to know about her daily struggles?

“I don’t want to put a stigma on myself in her eyes, but just to know if you’re starting to feel a different way — extreme emotions and different thoughts — that it’s OK to be honest and say that you’re feeling that way,” the Michigan native states in the video above, while emphasizing the importance of being open with yourself.

Hear Cate discuss in more detail this sensitive topic in the clip — and be sure to keep watching her as she continues to chronicle her journey every Monday on TMOG at 9/8c.
