Kid Cudi Keeps Railing Against The Industry On New Song ‘Surfin’’

Cudi is happily riding his own wave on the Pharrell-assisted track

Remember when, earlier this month, Kid Cudi ignited a shitstorm of epic proportions by dissing the music industry and calling out Kanye West and Drake? Well, the Cleveland MC hasn’t quite let up yet, and now he’s airing out his feelings on wax.

On Friday evening (September 30), Cudi surprise-dropped his new single “Surfin’,” which is basically the shruggie emoji (this guy: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) in musical form. “Now I ain’t riding no waves/ Too busy making my own wave, baby,” he repeats on the upbeat hook, over a funky, horn-heavy beat from Pharrell. He also takes another opportunity to declare, “the industry is full of shit,” but ultimately, he doesn’t give a single fuck about being disliked: “If you don’t get me, not my issue bitch.”

“Surfin’” is the latest taste of Cudi’s upcoming album Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’, which was originally slated to drop Friday. However, Cudi posted a note on Twitter explaining that he had to push back the album’s release because of sample clearance issues.

“I can sense all of the excitement and love out there. It really makes my heart smile,” he wrote. “No one could be more excited and anxious for you to consume the magical musical candy I’ve prepared for you.”

Earlier this week, Cudi revealed the new album’s tracklist, which includes collaborations with Willow Smith, André 3000, and Travis Scott. Sounds like a pretty promising project that should be worth the listen... whenever it drops, that is.
