Lykke Li, Peter Björn And John, And Miike Snow Give Us The Next Great Swedish Pop Act

The Stockholm scene friends join forces for their new project, LIV

It’s been over a year since Lykke Li last delivered a strong addition to Sweden’s list of amazing musical exports, but she’s back — and she’s not alone.

The pop singer has teamed up with some fellow Stockholm scene pals for LIV, a supergroup that features members of Miike Snow and Peter Björn and John.

They’ve released their first single, “Wings of Love,” and it banks on everything you love from them all: floating melodies; tight, octave-tripping harmonies; flourishes of dreamy guitar work; and strong voices that come together as a solid first statement from the new project.

LIV is rounded out by Björn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John, Andrew Wyatt and Pontus Winberg of Miike Snow, and producer Jeff Bhasker. Given that Li and the guys have long since established a musical kingship with INGRID, the artist collective and label they founded in Stockholm in 2012, it was only a matter of time before they committed to a full-on collaboration instead of working on each other’s records. (Yttling has production credits on every single one of Li’s records; Miike Snow remixed the title track of Peter Björn and John’s latest full-length, Breakin’ Point, etc.)

Li is clearly stoked about the endeavor, and shared news of her “SPIRITUAL PROGG” band on Instagram. Here’s to more love songs from LIV and a welcome addition to the Robyn/Tove Lo/ABBA dance party of your dreams.
