American Horror Story: Roanoke Has A Surprising Connection To Freak Show’s Dandy Mott

Here’s how ‘Roanoke’ is directly tied to ‘Freak Show’

We know all the seasons of American Horror Story are somehow connected. However, it hasn't always been easy to connect the dots. Usually, the seasons' connecting threads are thoroughly buried under veiled references and crackpot theories — but there have been exceptions. Familiar faces like Dr. Montgomery, Queenie, and Sarah Paulson's Billie Dean Howard all made appearances in Hotel, while Freak Show brought back Asylum scene-stealer Dr. Arthur Arden. As for American Horror Story: Roanoke, the Murder House connections are clear, but co-creator Ryan Murphy recently revealed how this season will also be directly tied to Freak Show.

According to EW, Roanoke will explore the Mott family history — yes, that's Mott as in pretty and petulant psychopath Dandy Mott (Finn Wittrock) from Freak Show. "We explain how the Motts began, which is funny," Murphy said. Could the Motts have ties to the lost colony of Roanoke? We suppose anything is possible this season, with its kooky cast of disgruntled spirits.

As for the larger picture, Murphy said that all the seasons are "very separate, but there's clues every season that we’re now telling you how the different worlds are intertwined."

Murphy also added that more AHS alums will pop up on Roanoke — maybe even Wittrock himself — to help connect those dots. "Many, many, many that you have not seen in years that you have wanted to see," he said.

OK. But will we see more of this? Roanoke currently has a dearth of sexy ghosts.
