The Weeknd Cut Off His Iconic Hairstyle For His Next Album

‘Starboy’ is almost here

The Weeknd just revealed the cover of his forthcoming album, and thanks to a major haircut, he's almost unrecognizable.

In an intensely saturated blue photo, the R&B singer looks up at the camera wearing a leather jacket and a prominent cross. He's also rocking one hell of a haircut. The stylized locks that came to be his signature are no more.

The cover also confirms that The Weeknd's next album will be called Starboy.

Could he be going for a David Bowie reference? Bowie's most iconic look on the Aladdin Sane cover prominently featured the colors red and blue, and one of the late glam rocker's biggest singles was called "Starman." Maybe it's just a coincidence, or maybe The Weeknd is hinting at some kind of homage.

In July, the singer potentially described his next album as "aggressive and warm." And in May, he said that he was working with the production team that backed him up on his 2011 debut, House of Balloons.

There's no release date yet for Starboy, but a tweet comprising only the fall leaves and hourglass emojis seems to hint that it'll be out before winter.
