The Weeknd Hints At His ‘New Era’ With Some Strange Clues

Abel is definitely up to something ...

The Weeknd’s Instagram account isn’t much to look at right now. Actually, that’s an understatement ... because there’s literally nothing there at all.

As Complex points out, Abel Tesfaye’s once-full Insta has been entirely wiped clean, including his most recent post, which was captioned “This is my last post before the new era.” His cryptic new bio now reads, “⚡️✝⚡️ STARBOY ⚡️✝⚡️.” Is that a new alias? A new album title? A subtle David Bowie tribute? No one knows, but many fans are taking this as a surefire sign that new Weeknd music is on the way.

The R&B star’s as-yet-untitled upcoming album — the follow-up to 2015’s Beauty Behind the Madness — seems to be coming along nicely. In an interview with VMAN last month, he said, “The production feels aggressive but still sexy. I think it’ll be the best-sounding album I’ve ever done. It’s hard to label the sound because, when I first came out, nobody would label it R&B. I just want to keep pushing the envelope without it feeling forced.”

As for The Weeknd’s other social media activity ... well ... that’s just as mysterious too. He recently tweeted a series of emojis that included autumn leaves and an hourglass with no explanation.

Sure, Abel could simply be excited for sweater season and pumpkin spice lattes, but for someone who’s previously dubbed himself “King of the Fall,” it’s not much of a reach to assume something big is on the way.
