Miley Cyrus is getting ready to judge the next season of The Voice, so she swung through The Tonight Show at the end of a very, uh, interesting week on the late-night program. She came, she did some yoga, she kicked off her shoes, she cracked an awkward joke or two, and she managed to give Jimmy Fallon the emotional equivalent of a noogie in the middle of a Bob Dylan cover.
Cyrus joined The Roots for a lively take on Dylan's "Baby, I'm in the Mood for You" that revved up her Tennesseean twang. After belting her way through the track in (red) stocking feet, she vamped for a spell, telling the crowd that there's no place she'd rather be than right there in the studio. That's when she veered off course: "Let's give it up for our host, who is always so much fun — unless you're Donald Trump. And then, don't even think about messing with my hair! I'm serious!"
Let's revisit exactly what she means by "messing with [her] hair."
On Thursday (Sept. 15), Fallon caught a ton of (justifiable) flack for not only inviting Donald Trump to his show, but palling around with him and avoiding tough questions at this point in the Republican presidential candidate's campaign. He then proceeded to tousle Trump's combover, and the backlash for the playful stunt was immediate and merciless — and it definitely caught the attention of plenty of viewers, including Cyrus.
The joke didn't really land, but everyone was all smiles at the end of the tune. The host and the singer hugged it out before signing off, and Fallon kept his paws outta her hair, thankfully.
