Over two weeks ago at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards, The Chainsmokers and Halsey sang their hit “Closer,” and the performance was four minutes of steamy goodness. But apparently Drew Taggart, one-half of The Chainsmokers, completely spaced on everything they’d rehearsed.
On Wednesday (September 14), Taggart candidly shared his thought process during that pivotal night. He mentioned how nervous he was because it was his “first time singing live” and it was on national TV — not to mention with Kanye West eyeballing him in the vast audience at Madison Square Garden. He also noted how he needed to keep the cameras, audience, and Halsey at the forefront his mind at all times. Unfortunately, Taggart “forgot everything” right as the curtain came up and it was showtime. Oops.
“Life throws you into situations you aren’t prepared for and you have to figure them out,” he captioned. “Don’t back down and don’t ever give up.” Taggart also thanked his fans for helping make “Closer” go double platinum, after just going platinum about a week ago. Keep it up, Drew. Pretty soon, you’ll be able to afford as many Rovers as you wish.
