Bobby Shmurda has reportedly accepted a plea deal and will serve 7 years in prison on weapons charges.

According to TMZ, the 22-year-old Brooklyn rapper pled guilty on Friday (September 9) to charges that landed him in jail in December 2014. Shmurda (born Ackquille Pollard) was held on $2 million bail after his arrest, and petitions to reduce that number were repeatedly denied.

The summer before he was arrested, Shmurda released his debut single, "Hot N---a," which brought him viral fame when the lo-fi video's signature "Shmoney dance" became a social media phenomenon. That led to a reportedly lucrative record deal with Epic Records, where industry vet L.A. Reid signed the MC. But Internet fame would soon turn to infamy.

After 20 months behind bars awaiting trial, Shmurda has pled guilty to conspiracy to possess weapons and possession of a weapon. Other charges against the rapper, such as drug possession and conspiracy to commit murder, have been dismissed, TMZ reports.

Shmurda's lawyer allegedly urged him to take the plea deal instead of facing a jury, as he and other members of his GS9 crew who were arrested in 2014 risked life in prison. He was scheduled to stand trial on September 12.
