Voters Laughing Alone With Ballot

Salad is out. Civic duty is in.

Stare at a presidential campaign long enough, and you start to wonder if the candidates all studied the same Election Facial Expressions for Dummies handbook. These trademarks include constantly pointing at random people and kissing strangers’ babies. So many politicians are stealing stage directions from the same guide that it can feel like they’re just trying to create their own gallery of electoral clip art. Like stock photography, some of these odd election images don’t feel like they could ever happen in real life, and you wonder why anyone thought it would be a good idea to create an entire genre of photography on this subject.

To that end, we bring you our new discovery: “Voters Laughing Alone With Ballot,” a political sequel to “Women Laughing Alone With Salad.”

What’s so funny? Is it because it’s kind of silly to vote for yourself? Are they just glad that the campaign is finally over? Are they so delirious from spending a year on the road that they are just combusting into laughter to keep from crying?

These are rhetorical questions, because it is obvious that “Voters Laughing Alone With Ballot” is an answerless riddle. Stare at them for awhile and may you reach enlightenment, or at least be filled with a burning desire to go out and vote so you can be mirthful too.

There are two languages that are understood across the globe: music and laughing alone with ballots.

This is not an activity limited to candidates, either. Time travelers also think that voting is inherently hilarious.
