In a Facebook Live video on August 19, Diesel gave those interested in the intergalactic antiheroes some concrete details for the crossover.
“The Guardians will be included in Avengers: Infinity War, and that’s incredibly exciting,” he shared. “You were told before everybody.”
Thankfully, we won’t have to wait a few years to get a Guardians fix: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled for a May 5, 2017 release. Avengers: Infinity War will come out almost exactly one year after that on May 8, 2018.
This has been an event years in the making, as talk of a Guardians/Avengers mash-up has been circulating since long before Age of Ultron hit theaters. Marvel’s Kevin Feige confirmed that the crossover would be happening two years ago while discussing easter eggs and the connections between the franchises, but he left out a timeline and promises of which Avengers flick would play host to Starlord, Groot, and the gang.
One thing’s for sure: Baby Groot’s gonna dance his branches off next spring, and we’ve got plenty of adventures to look forward to after that.
