Justin Bieber has had enough of the negativity flooding his social media accounts and those belonging to the people he cares about, and he’s threatening to cut off his fans as a result.
The pop star — who’s currently traveling in Japan with his new girlfriend, model Sofia Richie — posted several selfies he snapped in the back of a car to his Instagram account. The last one, which features a shades-sporting Bieber and Richie pointing her fingers at his temple as though she’s holding a gun to his head, has got a message for his fans: “Stop the hate,” or he’ll make his Instagram private.
“This is getting out of hand,” he continues. “If you guys are really fans you wouldn’t be so mean to people that I like.” (He could’ve followed that up with “Stop posting nine gajillion snake emojis all over my photos and Sofia’s, too!” but the gist is clear.)
The Beliebers were split in their responses to this decree. Some applauded his decision and called out those who have been posting hateful words all over his and Richie’s Instagrams. (Richie — Lionel’s daughter and Nicole’s little sister — has taken a page from Kylie Jenner’s playbook and blocked users from commenting on her own Instagram posts.)
As for those who are a little more vocal with their concern for their budding romance, some didn’t take too kindly to his decision, going as far as to say that “it’s like 100 knives in the chest after seeing this, Justin.” Hyperbole aside, hopefully Bieber’s plea is heeded, and ASAP.
