The 'Make It Or Break It' Cast Has Bad News For Fans Who Shipped Carter And Kaylie
Hours after the real-life U.S. gymnastics team won gold in Rio, the cast of Freeform’s Make It or Break It — a 2009 series about four gymnasts vying for Olympic medals — reunited for a Q&A on Wednesday, August 10. Talk about good timing.
Lauren Tanner (Cassie Scerbo), Payson Keeler (Ayla Kell), Carter Anderson (Zachary Burr Abel), and more answered fans’ burning questions during a Facebook live stream. They talked about using stunt doubles, Payson and Sasha’s forbidden romance, the horrible wedgies leotards caused — oh, and that insane Season 1 love triangle between Carter, Lauren, and Kaylie Cruz (Josie Loren).
If you need a refresher, the show opened with Kaylie dating Carter, but he soon cheated on her with Lauren — her best friend and training partner. After Kaylie found out, she dumped his sorry ass and he went running back to Lauren, all while holding on to feelings for Kaylie. He refused to tell Lauren he loved her, partly because (1) he didn’t and (2) she was a horrible human who slept with her BFF’s boyfriend and stole her other friend’s gymnastics routine. Drama.
“I wanted to win that triangle for years. Did I win? Did Lauren win?” Scerbo asked Abel. It’s the question fans have been wondering for years.
He nodded yes, explaining that he liked the “back and forth” between their characters.
“Sorry Josie!” Scerbo joked.
“You’re not here to defend yourself,” Kell added, laughing. (Loren was sadly absent from the live stream, but she keeps in touch with her costars.)
Yet ultimately no boy could break apart this friendship. “At the end of the day, I think whatever the girls were going through with boys or in their family lives, they always had each other,” Scerbo said. “They were sisters, they were a family. Even when they hated each other, they loved each other.”
And though Kaylie didn’t end up with Carter, actress Loren got her happily ever after — she got engaged two weeks ago! Keep your fingers crossed for a full cast reunion at her wedding.
