Now that she's got bangs, Ariana Grande is departing from her trademark ponytail on the regular, trading in her standard look for something a little more unexpected.

First came crimped hair. Now comes pigtails.

Tuesday night (August 9), Ariana revealed that her new style wasn't a clever way to beat the heat or just, like, a throwback to her youth, but instead is part of her upcoming role as Penny in NBC's Hairspray Live! Sadly, she didn't preview how high her hair has been teased (yet).

The show doesn't air until December, which means we're bound to see a lot of these pigtails in the coming months. Maybe we'll get so used to them, we'll forget there was ever a time when Ariana had any other trademark look!
