'Sausage Party' Avoided An NC-17 Rating By, Uh, Trimming A Pita Bread’s Junk

Slightly NSFW, obviously

Seth Rogen's Sausage Party is basically the animated food equivalent of Ryan Reynolds's Deadpool: Both actors spent a decade trying to get their R-rated movies made. But unlike Deadpool, Rogen's adult Pixar-esque film about the secret lives of food ran into a little snag with the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) when it came time to rate it.

Via Reddit, the MPAA had some serious qualms about the film's eight-minute orgy scene, but surprisingly not that many. "We probably added six things into the orgy that we were like, OK, these are like our sacrificial lambs ... and we lost like an eighth of one of them," Rogen said Monday (August 8) on The Howard Stern Show.

The part that had to be cut, Rogen said, involved — ahem — Lavash the pita bread's pubic hair. Apparently, scrotum hair on a cartoon pita bread crosses the line of acceptable R-rated American cinema. By the way, if this isn't gross enough, David Krumholtz (who voices Lavash) was Bernard the Elf in The Santa Clause and The Santa Clause 2, so just let that sink in for a second.

Sausage Party hits theaters August 12, 2016.
