Is it too early to call Moana Waialiki our favorite Disney Princess? Probably. But that's not going to stop us from professing our love for Disney's forthcoming animated film, Moana, and its plucky protagonist.
Well, and this pig, because LOOK AT HIM. #Goals
The newest teaser, which debuted during Sunday night's Olympics coverage, gives us our first proper look at Disney's first Polynesian princess (voiced by teen newcomer Auli'i Cravalho) — and she's even more fearless than her demigod companion. More importantly, she's been chosen by the ocean (yet another character in the film) for a very important mission.
In Moana, the spirited princess in question sails out on a daring wayfinding mission to complete her ancestors' unfinished voyage across the vast South Pacific. Along the way, Moana and her adorable pet pig Pua meet the once-mighty demigod Maui (voiced by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson), and together they traverse the sea, encountering "a whole ocean of bad" — including the tiny yet fierce Kakamora and a fearsome Lava Monster — to fulfill her chosen destiny.
The film's musical score, which you can hear a snippet of in the above teaser, includes tracks from Opetaia Foa’i and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who took home this year's Tony Award for Best Original Score of a musical. To celebrate the release of the brand-new teaser, Miranda took over Disney Animation's Instagram account over the weekend, and the result was nothing short of magical.
In case you weren't already convinced that Moana will be your new favorite Disney movie, here's Miranda and The Rock singing "Gaston" from Beauty and the Beast:
Moana hits theaters this Thanksgiving, on November 23, 2016.
