Forget Eminem — Drake Is Going After Hot 97 And Funkmaster Flex

During his concert at Madison Square Garden

Rumors flew earlier this week that Drake would be ready to respond if Eminem dissed him, and while there’s still no sign that would actually happen, Aubrey instead is taking aim at the source of the report.

The statement originated from Hot 97 personality Ebro Darden, who said that he had a conversation with Drake, who he claimed said he “had something for” Em in response to the phantom dis. Ebro eventually said he was just joking, but that didn’t stop Drake from acknowledging his displeasure with the whole situation in a cryptic Instagram post. And on Thursday (August 5), during the first of four nights at Madison Square Garden in New York City as part of his Summer Sixteen tour, he responded even more explicitly.

Onstage, he rapped: “They tellin’ lies on Hot 97, that’s how it goes / I told ’em fire Funk Flex, then I’ll come and do your show / Plus, me and Kanye, we just left out the studio / My first night in the Garden, I’m feeling like D. Rose.”

That first bit seems to address the recent Eminem-related chatter, but the Flex part goes a little deeper. Back when Drake and Meek Mill were in the early stages of their feud last summer, Flex sided with Meek, releasing a number of Drake reference tracks and taking shots at him on air. Then, in November, a video surfaced of Flex saying, “Fuck that Canadian n***a,” while playing Meek Mill’s “Dreams & Nightmares” at a club.

Drake has jabbed at Flex before, rapping on his Meek dis “Back 2 Back”: “You gon’ make me buy bottles for Charlamagne’ — a reference to Power 105.1 personality and Flex rival Charlamagne tha God.

Shortly after news of Drake’s latest lyrical shot spread on Twitter Thursday night, Flex chimed in.

We’ll have to wait until Saturday night to find out what, exactly, that story is. That’s the same night, by the way, as Drake and Future’s third New York show. They wrap up on Monday.

Then early Friday morning, Ebro chimed in on the radio. “[Drake] said eff Hot 97 — that’s not a shot,” he said.

All of this back-and-forth aside for a second — can we talk about the fact that Drake said he was in the studio with Kanye? Are they really making that joint album? I mean, I doubt it ... but, maybe?
