The incomparable Dennis Graham is famous for a lot of things, like his ladies’ man charm, his unlikely friendship with Justin Bieber, and — oh yeah! — his shared DNA with one Aubrey Drake Graham. Now, the 6 God’s dad has another claim to fame: starring in a music video for a song that’s all about him.
Canadian band Arkells recruited Dennis for the song “Drake’s Dad” off their upcoming album, Morning Report. In an interview with Consequence of Sound, frontman Max Kerman says the song is based off a true story about meeting Dennis in a Memphis bar.
“Last summer I was on a road trip with my best friends through the American south, and in the magic of the night, we happened to meet Drake’s dad - Dennis Graham - in a Memphis bar,” Kerman said. “He couldn’t have been more gracious, especially given that there were 16 of us, drunk on friendship and cheap American beer. This chance encounter inspired this song.”
The video chronicles the band’s chaotic Southern adventures, which include binge drinking in the shower and singing with a gospel choir. But it’s Dennis — looking dapper as hell in a maroon suit and black fedora — who emerges as the clear breakout star. Check it out:
