Wait, Does Carrie Fisher’s Dog Gary Have A Cameo In 'Star Wars: Episode VIII'?

MTV News caught up with Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, at Comic-Con, and here’s what she had to say about Gary’s big Hollywood break

Billie Lourd paid homage to her mother, Carrie Fisher, in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as Lieutenant Kaydel Ko Connix. While she may have only had one significant line in the film — “General, are you seeing this?” — her Princess Leia–inspired ’do was perfect enough to make even the most curmudgeonly Star Wars fan crack a smile. Lourd will reprise her role in next year’s Episode VIII, but there’s one very special member of Fisher’s family that we have yet to see in a galaxy far, far away: Gary Fisher.

These days, Fisher's “famous on Twitter” (her words) French bulldog, Gary, is her best red-carpet accessory. Everywhere she goes, he goes — even space. Well, technically, Fisher and the cast of Episode VIII filmed at Pinewood Studios in London, but you get it. Given the fact that Gary — who’s always camera-ready — was on set for the duration of filming, what are the odds that the People’s Favorite Dog made a cameo in Episode VIII? (After all, even Rogue One director Gareth Edwards filmed an uncredited cameo in the film.) According to Lourd, it’s (maybe) likely.

While promoting the second season of Scream Queens at San Diego Comic-Con, Lourd told MTV’s Josh Horowitz that there’s a possibility Gary made it into the film. “He may,” she said, “but in a very subtle way, like in a costume.”

Honestly, if we have to endure more Ewoks to get Gary in Episode VIII, then SO BE IT. It’s hard to tell if Lourd was actually being serious, but hey, that’s all part of the fun of Star Wars. What if Gary’s been inside BB-8 this entire time? Anything could happen in space.
