Just a few months after releasing his debut mixtape, March’s Lil Boat, Lil Yachty is back again, this time with Summer Songs 2. In the short span since that first drop, the Atlanta native’s popularity has continued to rise, and he looks to add to that growth with his latest.

The 14-track release is accompanied by a 14-minute short film on the budding star, shot and released by The Fader. In it, we meet Yachty’s mom and some of his friends and hear some of his own self-reflections on his journey and persona.

“I always knew there were a lot of kids at my house and they were back there doing something,” his mother says, describing her son as “creative, outgoing.” “I had no idea they were doing music.”

It seems to have turned out pretty well.

Yachty, meanwhile, talks about what got him to this point. “Being in college really let me know, I don’t want to live a regular life,” he says. “I want to be rich. I want to be famous. I want to be a celebrity. I want to be known. I want to be able to have this hair and people not laugh — they get excited.”
