Get Tangled Up In Alicia Keys’s Dreamy ‘In Common’ Video

Celebrate being your 'messed up, perfect, smart, sexy self'

Alicia Keys turns a bleak gray soundscape into a celebratory block party in her new “In Common” video. “Nothin feels better than finding the freedom to be your messed up, perfect, smart, sexy self!!” she wrote of the video on its debut, which brings the song’s breezy, dancehall-flavored energy to life with raw New York City vibes.

Keys appears bare-faced and singing on a makeshift fire escape in the colorless clip, while a diverse group of dancers twist their limbs in crazy contortions around her. By the end, the whole thing erupts into a big dance party, as the neighborhood celebrates being themselves and finding common ground in their messy love.

“This video is about celebrating our individuality, and how in the brilliance of our uniqueness, the magic of it all is at the core, we are all the same,” Keys told The FADER. “We want the same things. We all want to experience love, the freedom to be our truest selves, to love whomever we want and to be accepted and celebrated for all of our nuances and so called imperfections that make us, us.”

“In Common” appears on Keys’s forthcoming sixth album, which is expected to drop this summer.
