Following news that her Billboard Music Awards appearance had been canceled, Kesha has clarified what she intended to perform at the ceremony.

In a new Instagram post, Kesha denies rumors that she had been planning to use her time at the BBMAs to speak out against Dr. Luke, her former producer whom she’s currently suing in order to get out of her contract with his label.

Instead, she says she had planned to honor Bob Dylan with a cover of his song “It Ain’t Me Babe.” "I'm very sad and sorry to say I won't be allowed to do this. I just wanted to make very clear that this performance was about me honoring one of my favorite songwriters of all time and has never had anything at all to do with Dr. Luke,” she writes. "I was never going to use a picture of him, speak of him or allude to my legal situation in any way. I simply wanted to sing a song I love to honor an artist I have always looked up to."

Kesha was originally going to appear at the BBMAs with written permission from Kemosabe Records, according to a statement from dick clark productions. But Kemosabe rescinded that permission yesterday (May 17) and pulled Kesha out of the show.

With Kemosabe’s blessing, Kesha recently released a new version of “True Colors” with Zedd. She also performed Lady Gaga’s “Til It Happens To You” at a Humane Society gala. It's not entirely clear why Kemosabe blocked her BBMAs appearance and not other recent performances, though it could be because of the recent TMZ report alleging that Kesha would use her performance to attack Dr. Luke in the midst of their legal battle.
