If you weren't already convinced that Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn is the best damn part of Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment's upcoming Suicide Squad, then just wait until you hear this news: Harley Quinn is getting her own movie. But she won't be alone.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is currently developing a new standalone movie featuring an all-star cast of female DC heroes and villains with Robbie attached to reprise her role of Harley Quinn. We can only hope Batgirl, Black Canary, and Poison Ivy are involved somehow.
Robbie will also produce the female-fronted film, which was inspired by her own devotion to the DC Comics universe. After getting very invested in the source material while researching her role for Suicide Squad, she reportedly brought on the writer to develop the idea with her and pitch it to Warner Bros.
Obviously details are sparse right now, but here's what THR is certain about: there is a script being written, by a female writer (!!) whose name has been kept under wraps, and the terms "Batgirl" and "Birds of Prey" -- which is the name of the all-female superhero team DC Comics first began publishing in the mid '90s -- have been used in ongoing discussions.
Robbie will first appear as the unhinged troublemaker in Suicide Squad, opposite Will Smith and one Mistah J, Jared Leto. Though we still have to wait a few months for the skwad to hit the big screen, Robbie has already garnered plenty of attention for her wacky performance as the baseball bat-wielding, fan-favorite character.
We just have one word: Gimme.
