The first trailer for the long-awaited Assassin’s Creed movie is finally here, and as predicted, I now want to scale a cathedral and practice my parkour.
The feature-film adaptation of Ubisoft's action franchise sees Marion Cotillard send Michael Fassbender back to the time of the Spanish Inquisition, through sci-fi technology called the Animus, to alter the genetic memories left by an assassin ancestor. (Tbh, they had me at Fassbender.) Fassbender's character, Callum Lynch, doesn’t appear in the hit video game series and was instead created specifically for the movie.
So far, all we know about Callum is that he’s a descendent of a 15th century Spanish assassin, Aguilar, and must relive his ancestor’s experiences -- a.k.a. jumping off buildings and scaling cathedrals -- to obtain the skills that will help him take down the Knights Templar. Essentially, he's Desmond Miles from the original game trilogy, but his name is Callum. (It's movie magic!) As for Aguilar, well, he works in the dark to serve the light. Typical.
Assassin's Creed hits theaters December 21, 2016.
