Years before he cemented himself as a pop star thanks to hits like "Earned It" and "Can't Feel My Face," The Weeknd was developing a dedicated fan base thanks to his trio of 2011 mixtapes. The first of those, House of Balloons, was especially stunning in its sound and style: dark, graceful, intricate.
For his major label albums, 2013's Kiss Land and last year's Beauty Behind the Madness, Abel worked with a new cast of producers and writers. But now he's going back to his roots.
According to Vogue, he's in the studio working on new music with the same team that helped him craft House of Balloons. “But it’s a new thing,” he said of the upcoming music. “Always a new thing.”
That music and new thing seems to be his only focus at the moment. "Creatively, some magic is happening right now, and I don’t want to lose it,” he said.
Could that mean a new album from The Weeknd in 2016?
