After The Merch And The Memes, Birdman Is Turning His 'Respek' Rant Into A Song

He's shooting a video this week

It's the rant that keeps on giving.

Late last month, when Birdman made a pitstop at "The Breakfast Club" on Power 105.1, he launched a verbal attack at the show's hosts. “I want to start this thing off straight telling all three of y’all stop playing with my name," he said. "Stop playing with my fucking name."

The most enduring bit, of course, was this: "Put some respek on my name. You understand me? When y'all saying my name, put some respek on it."

Instantly, the phrase started flying around the internet. Memes were everywhere. The Hamiltones gave it an a capella remix. Mark Jackson dropped it into an NBA broadcast. Recent NFL draftee Eli Apple's mom used it on Twitter, demanding that doubting scouts put some respek on her family's name. Birdman started selling merch inspired by the tirade. And now he's naming a song after it.

According to his Instagram, he's shooting a video for the track in New Orleans on Monday and Tuesday. Birdman's next solo album, Ms. Gladys, is due out this summer.
