The dance track starts quietly with some slippery manipulations of Rihanna’s voice. Unlike the duo’s previous smash “We Found Love,” “This Is What You Came For” starts at almost a whisper, though it sounds like it gets more energetic as it progresses.
“Lightning strikes every time she moves / And everybody’s watching her / But she’s looking at you,” sings Rihanna, stretching that last word into a pixelated spread of notes.
Is it just us, or do those lines sound like they come from within the Swiftian school of lyricism? Maybe Taylor is just stoked on what her boyfriend’s been working on lately, or maybe she’s more involved than we think.
