Chance The Rapper Took A Live Crowd To Church During ‘Ultralight Beam’ Performance

'Y'all know Kanye's part, right?'

“Ultralight Beam” kicks Kanye West’s The Life Of Pablo off on the most heavenly note. There’s a 4-year-old preaching the gospel, an organ, a church choir, and features from Kelly Prince, Kirk Franklin, and The-Dream. But it’s Chance The Rapper who sets himself up as ‘Ye’s spiritual successor by rapping his redemption with the wittiest and most joyous verse.

On Tuesday night, Chance took a live audience to church by performing the song solo during a show in North Carolina. With the help of a backing track, the Chicagoan played off the crowd’s enthusiasm (“Y’all know Kanye’s part, right?” he asked) and gave them a praise-worthy performance for the books.

Chance and Kanye previously performed “Ultralight Beam” together on Saturday Night Live in February. There's no telling if Chance plans to make the song part of his regular rotation on the live circuit, but judging by this performance, he should definitely consider it.
