'Cruella de Vil' Live-Action Movie is Coming Because Duh

Someone cough up a green star because Disney is officially in the recycling business now.

For its latest reduce-and-reuse effort, the studio's set its sights on "101 Dalmations" as a live-action movie, giving the pooch-thieving villainess Cruella de Vil the spotlight.

As they've done with "Sleeping Beauty" and the Angelina Jolie-driven "Maleficent" reinterpretation, Disney intends to name this re-telling after its resident evil thing, calling it simply "Cruella." Because of course they are.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, "The Devil Wears Prada" scribe Aline Brosh McKenna, also responsible for Disney's "Cinderella" reboot screenplay — which probably didn't suit the name-it-after-the-mean-girl theme since who'd watch a movie called "Lady Tremaine"? — has been hired to transform the Dodie Smith novel and 1961 animated classic for live-action treatment.

This shouldn't be too terribly hard to do for McKenna, since John Hughes already did that exact thing in 1996, with Glenn Close starring as the two-tone-fur-loving baddie. Interestingly enough, though, Close herself will participate in this movie mulligan as an executive producer (read: money person) on the project.

For now, that's about all the scruffy deets we have on "Cruella," but know that this news is par for the course of the House of Mouse lately.

Starting with 2010's wildly successful "Alice in Wonderland" re-imagining, the studio's been turning to its own classical archives with "Maleficent," "Cinderella" and even a new go at "The Jungle Book." 'Cause nothing is sacred anymore.

The slight upside to today's news is that Hollywood dog trainers are probably in for a 'lil business boon if the number of Dalmatians holds true. So yay for them, we guess?
