Dragons, wizards, swords, spears, witches... And The Dude.
Nope, it's not fan fiction, it's Jeff Bridges starring in his very own fantasy franchise, kicking off with "Seventh Son." The first trailer has been released for the swords and sorcery film, which is based on the dark fantasy "The Wardstone Chronicles" Young Adult series by Joseph Delaney. (The books go by "The Spook's Apprentice" over in the UK, where that title obviously doesn't mean what it might Stateside. Sorta like when British legends Iron Maiden did a song called "The Clansman"...).
Bridges plays a wizard in the film and squares off against his pal from "The Big Lebowski," Julianne Moore, who's playing a witch. Ben Barnes stars as the seventh son in the title (hey, Iron Maiden had an album called "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son"!), with Kit Harrington, Alicia Vikander, Olivia Williams, Djimon Hounsou and Jason Scott Lee participating, as well. The UK folks get to see the movie October 25, but the U.S. will have to wait until January 17, 2014.
Hopefully, Bridges sought out Ian McKellen for some advice on playing a wizard, or at least watched this "Extras" scene where he explains how he does it (and earned an Emmy nomination in the process):
