New 'Mortal Instruments' Sneak: Demons and Shadowhunters and Moms, Oh My!

Sony Pictures is ready for its shot at the YA adaptation game with "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" rolling into theaters in a just over a month. With not one ("Divergent"), not two ("The Maze Runner") but three ("Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters") hopeful successors to the "Twilight"-"The Hunger Games" loot scoop on deck, all eyes are on the ticket counter* for this one.

With this new sneak peek at the film, courtesy of our pals at Yahoo! Movies, the movie's marbles — and demons and runes and that big, fancy Institute — are officially all on the table.

Last time we got some video action from the "City of Bones," there were some hints of a hidden underworld and these hipster kids' shadowhunters' biological-slash-mythical imperative to slay all the things that go bump in the night, but there wasn't a demon in sight. Now, though, the artwork's been tidied up a bit in time for its theatrical debut, and we've finally got a glimpse at the some of the special effects for the film (your rune is so shiny!), which should be pretty heavy altogether if the story is followed to letter.

Not to mention, more of the central plot involving the disappearance of Clary Fray (Lily Collins)'s mother Jocelyn (Lena Headey), her pal-mance with young Simon (Robert Sheehan) and the broody, too cool, know-it-allness of Jace Wayland (Jamie Campbell Bower) are presented here as well.

*Confident in the viability in this property, despite two back-to-back Young Adult-ish box office flubs already this year, producers have already pegged 2014 for release of the first sequel, "The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes." Jamie Campbell Bower confirmed today via Glamour UK that filming on movie two will begin at the end of September.
