Yes, Kanye West's Yeezus might be the album of the summer. But that doesn't mean that the provocative rapper/fashion designer/wild man hasn't lost his mind. Case in point: during a recent interview with W Magazine, the following, seemingly throwaway line can be found: "We weave through highway traffic as West makes calls about an upcoming 'Jetsons' movie on which, he tells me, he is creative director." Okay, fair enough. Except that this "Jetsons" movie project doesn't seem to exist.
In 2012, one of the producers, Donald De Line, talked to Vulture about the flick (and Kanye's supposed involvement). He said this: "The last two years I had various forms of communication from the studio that he had this real love and interest in 'The Jetsons' as an artist. My response was always through representatives, 'Well, that’s great. We'll let him know when we have a screenplay.' I was thinking he was interested in it on a musical level, but apparently he's deeply interested in art and architecture and wanted to be involved."
Apparently more interested than anyone thought, if the dude is still talking about it, despite no news coming out of the production.
If this were, you know, a real movie, it would make sense that Kanye would be involved in some capacity; he's clearly all about stuff that Dr. Evil would describe as "quasi-futuristic." And having him on board a "Jetsons" movie would up the cache of the project exponentially. Especially given its tortuously long history to try and get to the big screen in some kind of live action form (at one point "Sin City" auteur Robert Rodriguez was eyeballing it). But what is Kanye doing? Is he delusional? Is he talking to some producer who isn't De Line? What is happening?
If David Lynch wasn't talking about retiring we'd say that this would be a great new feature for him. So bizarre.
