In 2008's "The Dark Knight" William Fichtner was the first victim of Heath Ledger's The Joker, but now he's looking to do some victimizing of his own as one of comic book-doms most iconic villains.

Fichtner, who also plays main bad guy Butch Cavendish in next month's "The Lone Ranger," has revealed to Huffington Post that he's going to lead the Foot Clan as Shredder in Paramount's big-budget reboot of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," currently shooting in New York.

"I play Shredder. It is cool," Fichtner said matter-of-factly. "It's one of those things that came along where I thought, 'Really? Let me think about this for a minute.' [Laughs] Then I was like, 'Yeah, OK, this sounds like a journey.' I'm very glad that it worked out, I'm really glad that I'm doing it."

The solid character actor had previously worked with "Ninja Turtles" producer Michael Bay on both "Armageddon" and "Pearl Harbor," so he has no illusions about what he signed up for when depositing his fat paycheck, calling it a "big freakin' popcorn movie" with the qualifier "You love the roles for what they are."

"There have been times in my life where I've been offered roles in films when I really needed the money," Fichtner laughs. "I read it and think, 'I can't do it. There are no redeeming qualities whatsoever about the guy.' I like to find something ... if a character cares about something, that's a real guy. You may not like that guy, but he's a real guy."

Hopefully that "reality" extends to keeping Shredder's traditional cheese grater armor and Wolverine-style metal claws. No word yet on whether a custom Vanilla Ice rap will be soundtracking Fichtner's appearance. (Go Shredder, go Shredder, go!)
