When Universal Studios announced "Jurassic Park IV" would be pushed back indefinitely from its original June 13, 2014 release, fans of the beloved franchise felt the prospect of a new film fade into (Jurassic) oblivion.
However, those who attended Licensing Expo 2013 in Las Vegas yesterday received a tyrannosaurus-sized surprise. According to ComingSoon.net, a new poster for the fourth film proudly hung at the event, boasting a planned 2015 release. It appears filmmakers only delayed the project a year, making "Jurassic Park IV" not in the far-too-distant future.
Also, a booklet distributed at Licensing Expo states the film will be shot in 3D, as if two-dimensional dinosaurs were not terrifying enough.
The film's plot, however, is still a mystery. Universal said in a statement they are excited for the,"vision that [director] Colin Trevorrow has created for this film," but whether it will be a franchise reboot or continuation is still unknown. Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver wrote (not via cave etchings, we're guessing) the screenplay.
So, how can fans curb their "Jurassic" appetites until 2015? They can start by checking out Trevorrow's Twitter, where he is posting tons of nostalgic pictures, including this one: Don't these toys bring you back?
Back at work today, toys from 20 years ago waiting in my office. Thanks @ledoctor for keeping them in the box. pic.twitter.com/Fu7jX7EPeb
