Pec-Palooza! '300: Rise of an Empire' Trailer

Even as Zack Snyder prepares to unleash "Man of Steel," the powerhouse director and producer has a comic book movie of a decidedly different bent in the pipeline.

The brand new trailer for next year's "300: Rise of an Empire" hit the web today. The movie sees Israeli born relative newcomer Noam Murro taking the reigns from "300" director Snyder, who stayed on as producer. Lena Headey was of course rightfully the subject of one of our "Hot People Looking Hot" features recently and she's returned as Queen Gorgo. Of course, most of the characters in "300" (spoiler alert) didn't make it to the final frame, so we've got a mostly new cast of oiled up beefcakes doing battle in this one.

Mortal-turned-god Xerxes (after whom the graphic novel was named) is once again played by Rodrigo Santoro. Xerxes leads an army of Persians on an invasion, which must be fended off by Greek general Themistocles, played by Sullivan Stapleton, last seen in "Gangster Squad." Lest folks into chicks worry that it's nothing but a sausage party onscreen, Eva Green joins Headey as one of the badass babes of the "300" sequel.

After a great run directing music videos for the likes of My Chemical Romance and Morrissey, Snyder made his feature film debut with the "Dawn of the Dead" remake. But it was the visually-driven action epic "300" (based on the swords-and-sandals comic series) that really blew down the doors. Ripped from the pages of the 1998 mini-series by Frank Miller (the comic book master behind "Sin City" whose runs on "Daredevil" and "Batman" are the stuff of legend), "300" made over $450 million around the world in 2006.

While we're on the subject of the sequel (or spinoff, as some have called it), a bunch of new photos from the flick surfaced on a blog earlier today.

"300: Rise of an Empire" will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on March 7, 2014.
