If you didn't already know, Michael Bay's recent "Pain & Gain" crime thriller fest was based on a series of actual events which took place down there in Miami, Florida in the mid-'90s. So, those buffed-up baddies portrayed so well by Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Anthony Mackie were real-life thugs ... and their crimes actually happened, too.
Mackie's Adrian "Noel" Doorbal, for example, was convicted in '98 of a plethora of ills, not the least of which were two counts of murder. So, he's not exactly some teddy bear in the flesh. But if you happen to feel so inclined as to shoot the real death row-bound perp a letter, it's doable.
Doorbal, who was recruited into the vicious Sun Gym trio to extort and extinguish their gym's owner, has a profile up on WriteAPrisoner.com and is lookin' for some chat time.
"I was a bodybuilder with dreams of becoming a professional one day," his profile reads. "My tastes are vast and wide from music to movies. The books I read will surprise you and if you promise not to laugh, I'll tell you my favorite books are romance novels. I promise to always keep surprising you."
Judging by this antiquated forum chain, Doorbal's been at this prison pen pal business for the better part of a decade.
The world we live in ... wow.
By the by, based on Doorbal's court docs the movie's events, while cinematically and comedically* charged, do appear to have been mostly on-point. Sometimes the truth is so much crazier than fiction, and this story indeed appears to have been one of those cases. (As for the penile enhancement treatments bit ... well, you'd have to ask Doorbal himself about that.)
