It seems odd to say about a guy who was nominated for an Oscar, but Casey Affleck doesn't get nearly enough props. Think about it: Has the guy ever turned in a performance that was less than awesome? Yet he still ends up being overshadowed by his headline chomping big bro. It just ain't fair.
Well, Ben's baby brother is back at it again, and judging by the new YouTube trailer for "Ain't Them Bodies Saints," it looks like this may finally be Casey's time to shine in the spotlight.
Written and directed by David Lowery, who is best known for... actually, he's already best known for this. Anyway, "Ain't Them Bodies Saints" stars Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara as a couple who get themselves in all sorts of legal trouble when Mara up and shoots a cop. Due to their unbreakable bond of true love, though, Affleck takes the rap and heads to prison.
Naturally, though, he escapes and embarks on a mission to find his one true love (and their child). One wee issue: Mara's character may or may not have already moved on by getting romantically involved with a police officer (Ben Foster). So with a manhunt on, she has to decide whether to tell the truth and save her man or hold her tongue and protect her new life.
A force at this year's Sundance Film Festival, "Ain't Them Bodies Saints" is set to hit theaters on August 16. Check out the trailer — and watch Casey once again prove that he's the best overlooked actor of his generation.
