It was announced yesterday that Spike Jonze's mysterious new movie, "Her," about a man (played by Joaquin Phoenix) who falls in love with his Siri-like operating system, would be released by Warner Bros on November 20th. And today it was revealed that two previously unreported, very exciting cast members will make appearances in Jonze's film: Scarlett Johansson and Chris Pratt.
It is unclear, of course, what roles the actors play (although it is conceivable that Johansson could voice the computer, especially if the settings on the computer call for "breathlessly sexy"). They join previously announced cast members Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Samantha Morton, and Olivia Wilde. This is going to be good.
Pratt, of course, stars in the hilarious NBC sitcom "Parks and Recreation" but has been making inroads with his big screen career, playing one of the guys who killed Bin Laden in last year's amazing "Zero Dark Thirty," and the year before that co-starring in the Oscar-nominated sports-and-math drama "Moneyball." Later this year he has a role in the Vince Vaughn comedy "The Delivery Man" and next year leads two huge projects — the animated "Lego Movie" for "21 Jump Street" directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (yesss) and Marvel's next big thing, "Guardians of the Galaxy," where he'll play the heroic Star-Lord. Homeboy is about to blow up in a big, big way.
Johansson will co-star in next spring's "Captain America: Winter Soldier" and, presumably, "The Avengers 2" after that, with indie projects like Jonathan Glazer's sexy sci-fi whats-it "Under the Skin" and Jon Favreau's Bradley Cooper vehicle "Chef" somewhere in the pipeline (although at this point we're fairly convinced "Under the Skin" will never actually be seen by human eyes, but instead be glimpsed by our invading robot overlords several million years in the future).
Again: Warner Bros. will release "Her" on November 20th. Time to get excited.
