If you just so happen to be one of those nostalgic-for-the-'90s nerds, first of all heyheyheeeeeey, and second we've got some potentially distressing movie news surfing your way today.
Per Deadline, Ericson Core of "Invincible" (and various turns as a cinematographer) note, is taking the reins of this project, hoping to reinvigorate that "handsome undercover cop unwittingly buddies up with the somehow ethical perp who's been right under his nose the whole time" scenario. As a feather in the guy's hat, one of his camera-working credits was on the near-equally plot derivative "The Fast and the Furious."
This reboot has been knocking around in limbo since Warner Bros. and Alcon teamed up for it in fall, 2011, which gave the Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze faithful hold-outs hope that it would fall through somehow. However, the adrenaline appears to be flowing at 100 percent on this thing again after all.
Now, anyone who knows anything about H-wood will know that this Ericson Core fella is no Kathryn Bigelow — yes, that's who directed the surfer-heist film long before her "The Hurt Locker" and "Zero Dark Thirty" acclaim — at least not yet. But there is one thing to be glad about here: rather than reanimating Bodhi, Agent Johnny Utah and the whole Ex-Presidents crew, the new version will land somewhere in the world of extreme sports, with the boy agent sniffing out some bad guys with the same unkeen sorta nose. The script was written by "Salt" scribe Kurt Wimmer, for those keeping count.
