Questions and Answers with Miles Teller

Miles Teller made his big-screen debut just a few years ago, starring in the 2010 indie flick "Rabbit Hole" opposite Nicole Kidman. With a steady career on the rise ever since - from his role in the teen comedy "Project X," to appearing in the "Footloose" remake - Teller is stepping it up in his latest film.

"21 and Over" centers on three buddies (Teller, Skylar Astin, Justin Chon) who head out for an evening of epic festivities as one of them celebrates his 21st birthday. What ensues after that is a night filled with crazy experiences they'd rather soon forget.

NextMovie caught up with Teller to chat about all the debauchery in "21 and Over" (including going almost fully nude), which superhero he'd like to play, and why he won't wear a trench coat in any of his films.

Tube socks. That's all you and Skylar Astin wear in certain scenes of "21 and Over." So, you were totally cool with that when you read the script?

Yeah, um, it's one of those things where you read it and the character just walks across in a tube sock. So it's like, "Okay, yeah I could do that." But then on the day [of shooting], it's like, you're wearing a robe and you're wearing a tube sock and there's 30 crew standing around, and there's 200 students just watching you and stuff. Then they say, "Action!," and you take the robe off and you walk across. The first [take] was a bit, like, you're pretty nervous. Then after that, you're more comfortable with yourself.

Did the sock ever accidentally fall off?

No, close. There were a couple of times where I was, like, "Cut!," because it was gonna fall off.

There are quite a few, uh, interesting moments in the film. Anything you weren't sure you wanted to do?

When I kissed Skylar - that wasn't really enjoyable. From the moment I knew that scene was going on, I asked them what they were going to change it to. And I was like, "Skylar, help me out." And he was like, "Oh, you pick your battles, I'll pick mine." I'm like, "This is the only battle."

So that was worse than being almost totally naked?

Way worse. Way, way worse.

Describe Skylar's kissing style in two words.

Inappropriate mouth-breather.

You bust some moves in "Project X" and "Footloose," and Skylar comes from a musical theater background. Who would win in a dance-off?

Oh, Skylar can't dance. Skylar can sing; he's an incredible singer, but he cannot dance.

Okay, then who would win in a fight to the death among your cast?

[Laughs] I would. Unless Justin [Chon] has some secret...I don't know, with Justin you never know cause sometimes he can be the wildcard.

His full-frontal scene was pretty bold. I heard it was a prosthetic.

No, that's not what I heard.

When I spoke to Skylar, he said it was! That was really all of Justin?

[Nods] Yeah, that's his real junk. I thought it was funny. I'm pulling him from behind so I didn't really get the brunt of it.

How did you spend your 21st birthday?

Six of my best friends from Florida flew up to New York. I was going to NYU at the time. My mom had customized all these t-shirts, and they were bright green and had a picture of my face on it with a crown, and we just walked around New York all wearing the same shirt. People were like, "You guys in a band, or what's going on?" And we just kind of bar hopped.

Let's go back to talking about kissing.

Let's not.

Haha, not in this film. What was the first movie you ever made out to?

"Titanic." Yeah, baby. It was a three-hour movie and first of all, there's boobs in the movie. I was in fifth grade, so it was my first kind of girlfriend and it was three hours without your parents sitting there so it was perfect.

What geeks you out?

Nothing really. I just got an iPhone, which is cool, but I don't download movies, I don't watch Hulu, I don't have Netflix. I don't do any of that. But I do geek out to music...I listen to a lot of [Grateful] Dead stuff.

What did you buy with your first Hollywood paycheck?

I have a shitty car I still drive. I bought a BMW with 120,000 miles on it. And I bought a 42-inch LG TV. I still have a lot of student loans so I'm not spending my money on too many things.

I'm still waiting for my first big Hollywood paycheck...maybe I'll play a superhero.

Which superhero would you want to play?

Batman [but] that won't be anytime soon. Spiderman would've been cool.

Who's your favorite Batman?

Michael Keaton. My dad looks like him, that's why. When we moved into my neighborhood in New Jersey, all my buddies thought Batman moved in.

And you've drawn a lot of comparisons to John Cusack.

They tried to get me to wear a trench coat in one of my movies. I was like, "I know what you're doing."

What was your first gig?

I did a guest spot on this show, "The Unusuals," with Jeremy Renner and Amber Tamblyn.

What is your favorite website? After NextMovie, of course.

I goto Cagepotato. BroBible is another good one.

What's your mock porn star name?

Lady Keller.

That's cool, sounds like Lady Killer.

Yeah, mad cool.

NY or LA?

Live in LA, vacation in NY.

Beer or wine?

Beer.

Rap or rock?

Rock.

Pacino or De Niro?

De Niro. "Raging Bull," man.
