Easter Egg Meet Face, Disney's Been in on 'Star Wars' the Whole Time

Turns out, maybe we shouldn't have been so darn bamboozled by Disney picking up Lucasfilm and setting "Star Wars: Episode VII" into motion because as it happens, Mickey Mouse has been an integral part of George Lucas' prized intergalactic franchise for quite some time. Make that more than 30 years.

As scoped out by the force-filled folks at the Star Wars Blog, Lucas honored his life-long love of Disney's friendly rodent by incorporating a teensy, blink-and-you'd-miss-it (and, boy, we did) Easter Egg homage to the chap.

Mhmm. Right there in "Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back," when Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Darth Vader come to blows in Cloud City, there's a crystalline Mickey head in the background, clear as day. How this got over on us for 30-plus years, we still can't wrap our heads around.

Reportedly, George Lucas has been a Disney fan boy since he was actually, well, a boy and made way to Disneyland's opening day at the tender age of eleven. "Where dreams come true" indeed.

Lucasfilms was sold to Disney in October, and the "Star Wars" sequels (along with Twitter meltdownscrossover artwork and video puns) have been piling on ever since. "Episode VII" is just the beginning, too, with "Episode VIII" and "Episode IX" already in development with screenwriters on board and ABC aiming to bring some of that Yoda action to the small screen.

Sure, there's been a mild director shake-up over who'll helm the eventual spin-offs, but the fact remains that this is a real thing that's happening. And the sign's been literally written on the wall for decades.
