Matthew McConaughey busted out of the big house? Alright, alright.
The "Magic Mike" star is on the run from the law in "Mud," the new drama from writer-director Jeff Nichols. Calling himself 'Mud,' McConaughey's charismatic fugitive befriends two teenage boys (including Tye Sheridan from "The Tree of Life") as he looks to reunite with his ladylove (Reese Witherspoon) and evade the ruthless bounty hunters on his trail.
"Mud" is the third feature for Nichols, who's currently two for two with the excellent "Shotgun Stories" and "Take Shelter." "Mud" premiered to little fanfare last year at Cannes, though it's scoring its first big American audience at the Sundance Film Festival this month. It looks like a pretty solid southern melodrama, filled with mystery, intrigue, atmosphere and a whole lot of ... well, mud. You also get Nichols regular Michael Shannon, who pretty much automatically makes good things even better.
