Ty Burrell Is a 'Muppet' of a Man

Ty Burrell is on the case of another great Muppet caper in the making.

The "Modern Family" star (who certainly possesses Muppet-like attributes, and we mean that in the nicest way possible) has signed on to be one of the human characters in the still-untitled "Muppets" sequel, according to Heat Vision.

The sequel moves the action right along from America to Europe, creating speculation that the film's plot will involve some sort of international intrigue, a la "The Great Muppet Caper" (1981). The theory is further fueled by one of the main human characters being a still-uncast Russian femme fatale ... and an Interpol agent, to be played by Burell.

The role was originally offered to "Django Unchained" star Christoph Waltz, though his schedule has kept him from being able to join in the Muppet Euro-mayhem.

And that's about all there is to know about the "Muppets" sequel for now, even though filming is set to commence this winter. James Bobin is returning to direct the film and has co-written the screenplay with Nicholas Stoller, who co-wrote the original film with Jason Segel. Segel isn't returning for the sequel either in front of or behind the camera.

The "Muppets" sequel will probably hit theaters in Summer 2014, though with a little luck in might be ready by this time next year. Meanwhile, Ty Burrell is currently filming "The Skeleton Twins" with Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader and will be heard as the voice of Mr. Sherman in the animated feature "Mr. Sherman and Peabody," which opens on Nov. 1, 2013.
