Remember Him? It's Gerard Depardieu!

Remember this guy?

French actor Gérard Depardieu last made headlines just over a year ago for something bad he depar-did: peeing in the aisle of an Air France flight after a stewardess told him to return to his seat.

Now, if you're still like, "Gérard Depar-who?" that's okay too. Although he has nearly 200 credits to his name on IMDb, the actor mostly appears in French films. On these shores, he's best known for his roles in "My Father the Hero," "The Man in the Iron Mask," and "Cyrano de Bergerac."

Now, he can add Ang Lee's "Life of Pi," opening this week, to his list of U.S. screen hits. Depardieu plays a role credited as "the Frenchman," a cook on the ship the main character and his family board — along with a zoo's worth of animals — for a (doomed) trans-Pacific passage.

Don't go looking for a sunshine-and-rainbows redemption of Depardieu's somewhat marred reputation, though. It's not giving away any plot points to say that his character is decidedly not a nice dude. To begin with, he refuses to serve Pi and his mother vegetarian food (they're Hindu). That, it turns out, is only the tip of the iceberg.

What do you think? Are you glad to see Depardieu's face, distinctive nose and all, back on U.S. screens?

Depardieu has defended himself for his misbehavior in the past, insisting, "I'm not a monster, I'm just a man who wants to pee."
