UPDATE: Sony has announced that "Super Size Me" helmer Morgan Spurlock is set to direct the One Direction 3-D concert film.
One Direction knows exactly which way they are headed: to the silver screen.
After performing on the Today Show for a record-breaking crowd of 15,000 — some of whom had camped out since last Thursday to secure their spots — the group revealed its big plans to Savannah Guthrie and Matt Lauer.
Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson performed a few songs first, but the real news was still to come. Apparently the British band is following in the footsteps of Katy Perry and Justin Bieber with a feature flick.
"We are going to do our first-ever movie and it's going to be in 3-D and it's coming to cinemas near you on the 30th of August, 2013," Niall Horan announced (to a very excited crowd, we might add).
Though they are riding one massive fame wave, it seems they still get nervous about turning out new music. Styles admitted he was "very nervous" about the release of their sophomore album, "Take Me Home." Go figure. Zayn Malik echoed Styles' sentiments, explaining, "We were a little nervous when we first put the album for the fans, but we've been waiting so long, we are just excited and we are happy the fans can get a physical copy now."
Well, Mr. Malik, so are they.
